Your Money God's Way: Overcoming the 7 Money Myths That Keep Christians Broke - by Amie Streater

Your Money God’s Way, by Amie Streater, is an incredible book that causes you to take an honest look at your finances; and then really gets to the heart of the matter – your heart. That’s right! For most people that are in debt, suffering financially, and living month-to-month, there is a greater issue than just not having enough money (because most people do have enough money). The issue is this: what is the condition of your heart that would lead you to the place where you are careless, selfish, and lazy with the money God has given you? God does not desire for us to live this way.

This book knocked my socks off, and sense into my head! I was extremely challenged by the different areas that Streater zeroes in on; and I found myself sincerely praying the closing prayers (at the end of each chapter), and then practicing what I read! Each chapter presents “counterfeit convictions” that keep us making poor financial decisions, and then presents “timeless truths”, from the Bible, that should be the foundation to obtaining victory and freedom in our finances; and all these principles are presented from the lives and circumstances of individuals created by the author. This is a simple, yet powerful book that I would recommend to anyone that desires to grow and mature in their finances!

Book Review - "Out Live Your Life" by Max Lucado

Anyone that has been a Christian for any length of time, or anyone that has lived for that matter, has found that it is easy to just live our lives day-to-day, and have no real impact on the world around us. The truth is, God has a greater plan for our lives - a plan that includes impacting the world around us. In author Max Lucado's book, "Out Live Your Life", he challenges and encourages us to "open the clam shell", step out into the world around us, and live a life that demonstrates the fact that God uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things.

This is a great book. Chapters are very short - averaging 4-8 pages per chapter - which made it an easy book to read through; and also made it possible to digest the contents bite by bite. The book is quick to challenge your view of yourself and your view of the world around you; and brings about many points to stop an meditate on. There is a great use of story telling, metaphors, and illustration to bring to life the awesome reality that God can, and wants to use us! I would certainly recommend this book - especially to leaders that find themselves "too busy to read."

Book Review - "Captured By Grace: No One Is Beyond the Reach of a Loving God" by Dr. David Jeremiah

Two men that lived centuries apart, whose homes were a great distance apart, and whose upbringing bear no resemblance with the other, had three things in common: they lived lives of evil and destruction, were radically transformed by God, and transcribed powerful words telling us about it. These two men are Apostle Paul (author of two-thirds of the New Testament) and John Newton (the individual that penned the words to the classic hymn "Amazing Grace").

This is a powerful book that uses the stories of these men, along-side scripture, to challenge, inspire, and motivate us to recognize the grace of God in our lives; and to realize that God's love is greater than anyone can fathom, and is hunting us all down. I was finding myself stopping mid-chapter to pray and ask God for forgiveness. Dr. David Jeremiah uses powerful illustrations, detailed accounts of the lives of these men, and in-dept understanding of scripture to bring to life the power of God's grace. By the end of their lives, both men considered themselves the "chief of sinners", and recognized that they had been captured by grace. Although the beginning of the book was a bit slow (due to the detailed introduction of the subjects in the book), I really enjoyed the book once it got going. I would recommend this book to anyone that desires a greater understanding and reality of God's grace in their lives. You are not beyond the reach of God's love!
